Hands of workshop participants recreating Manchester's worker bee- the inspiration behind the piece

Re:Sound with Streetwise Opera

with BBC Concert Orchestra, The Sixteen and 1927

WRITTEN DURING WORKSHOPS WITH RESIDENTS OF WOMEN'S DIRECT ACCESS, MANCHESTER IN 2022.  MANCHESTER'S WORKER BEE SYMBOLISES THE HARD-WORKING SPIRIT OF THE CITY, AND ITS INHABITANTS' WILLINGNESS TO COME TOGETHER. IT IS AN EMBLEM OF THE SOLIDARITY AND
TOGETHERNESS AFTER THE CITY'S DARKEST HOURS. WORKER BEES ARE FEMALE AND USE ALL
THEIR ENERGY AND STRENGTH TO MAINTAIN THE HIVE. THEY ARE ALSO ESSENTIAL CROSS POLLINATORS FOR THE ECOSYSTEM.

ORCHESTRATED FOR STREETWISE OPERA RE:SOUND, AND THE BBC CONCERT ORCHESTRA IN 2023.
