'The Rain is Coming'
A contemporary response to Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin, told from a female perspective The Rain Is Coming will be performed by British baritone Roderick Williams, OBE. Created by composer Emily Levy and writer Rommi Smith this collaboration addresses the gender imbalance in the romantic song concert repertoire: reversing traditional gender roles and giving voice to the Miller’s daughter and her desire for freedom.
Exploring themes from Schubert’s original work whilst combining Emily’s classical, folk and contemporary musical heritage with Rommi’s literary voicethese six brand new songs are an exciting interpretation of a classic story.
The Rain is Coming will be performed by Roderick Williams and pianist Susie Allan throughout 2017-18, with a short film and sheet music available online.
