Antidote - The Victoria Theatre’s new programme for artistes and work that see things from a (slightly) different point of view. Each of the events in our Antidote series are curated by internationally recognised composer, musician and songwriter Aby Vulliamy.
As with all Antidote events, the evening will include a section of musical collaboration between the two acts (who have not worked together before); spontaneous or pre-prepared, but ultimately, something totally unique and event-specific emerges each time.
Mi Mye boasts a rotating cast of excellent musicians around the core member, Jamie Lockhart, a highly accomplished fiddle player, guitarist, lyricist, producer, and promoter who’s roots in the Scottish Highlands inspire his compositions, alongside a large dollop of Wakefield’s innovative ‘indie’ music influences. Jamie leans on his folk music and storytelling roots to produce beautiful songs of empathy and hope.
Emily Levy and Matthew Bourne are both award-winning composers and musicians with many commissions and recordings under their belts. They’ve made time for this very special collaboration emerging out of Emily’s search for female folksong protagonists who are strong, courageous and empowered. Combining Matthew’s fearlessly unpredictable sonic world with Emily’s beautiful, timeless vocal melodies, this project mixes new sounds and old, traditional folk alongside angular synths creating mesmerizing stories and sounds.
